Veteran's Day....

If you are in the USA - a moment to send a Veteran's Day greetings to all, and especially to all Vet's out there..... To whom we can not express our thanks and deepest appreciation in sufficient terms with words alone.... To me - this picture captures the essence of the feelings that words can not express.....

Taken by Jim Mahoney/Dallas Morning News, it is Pearl Harbor survivor Houston James of Dallas is overcome with emotion as he embraces Marine Staff Sgt. Mark Graunke Jr. during the Dallas Veterans Day Commemoration at Dallas City Hall on Veteran's Day 2004. Sgt Graunke, who was a member of a Marine ordnance-disposal team, lost a hand, leg and eye while defusing a bomb in Iraq.

My personal thanks to all Veterans from around the world and those in the service today...

We are indebted - and we will not forget all you have done for the rest of us.

My wife, son and I went and saw Flags of our Fathers. It was really excellent, showed the war from a personal perspective. There were lots of battle scenes, but also the trials and tribulations faced by the 3 remaining vets that raised the 2nd flag.

It was really excellent and I am glad that we saw it the day before Veternas Day.

I am so thankfull to have my son safely home from Iraq this vetrans day,my heart goes out to those with loved ones still there. God bless all our veterans.

I, too, am honored to post my humble admiration and good wishes to all who have served,m especially to those who saw combat or supported the combat troops. What really irkes me, however, is how so few of our current school children or adults in their 20's and even 30's in this country actually know why Veterans' Day is November 11th! Barely one out of ten know it was to commemorate the end of the Great War (1). It seems to me that these "citizens" just look at this day as a day off from school or work...very sad indeed!

As we admire and enjoy the German weapons to which this forum is dedicated, let us remember that they were, in fact, produced in such large numbers in an attempt to defeat the servicemen that we honor with this day. The C96s, P08s, and later P38s of the World Wars remind us that free and not-so-free nations stood up to determined aggressors with technical expertise. Our fathers and grandfathers succeeded because they did not back down when the going got tough.
I take this opportunity to salute Marine Cpl. Jason Dunham, Medal of Honor winner, for his heroic and selfless courage that prompted him to throw himself on a live grenade to save his patrol.
God bless the men and women who now serve in the current battle to preserve freedom.

A salute to all veterans and those presently in the service of our country. A prayer for my son who is presently in Iraq, and a salute to my younger brother, Leslie Clark, who served in Viet Nam and died from complications due to exposure to Agent Orange many years ago.

Speaking for those of us who served, I think it is safe to say that we feel honored to have been, for a time, in the company of truly noble people. This experience has defined, for me, who I am. And I could not be more proud of my brave son who has fulfilled the family tradition with honor and valor.
