Value Estimation
Dear Members
I recently obtained a Luger P08 and now I am wondering, what it could be worth, since I think of selling it. With the aid of this great site, I've been able to identify my Luger as the following gun: It's a Mauser, built in the "Oberndorf Werke am Neckar" (byf), stamped 41 on the chamber. Serial numbers (72XX) match (even both Magazins) except for the firing pin and the barrel, which has the number "753" below a "N", imprinted on the underside, which brings me to the conclusion, that the barrel was replaced in Juli of '53, probably in Eastern Germany. There are some markings, indicating, that the gun was checked during WW2 and after WW2 in Cologne. Finish is around 95 %, some slight freckling, barrel is clear and sharp. The grips are in good condition, though I doubt they're really original. So, if anyone has an idea, what the gun's worth could be around, I'd be glad if he told me. Thank you in advance PS: Excuse my bad English, I'm not a native speaker Div |

I'm new to the forum myself, and since my code 42 is being reworked I'm going through withdrawels..........if you are really going to sell it then....... when you figure out a price.......let me know I might be interested.
what I really want is an all matching shooter....s42, or code 42 or byf if any one has one to sell. I missed one on Gunsamerica......the guy decide to take it off and put it on Auction arms because he didn't ask enough on Gunsamerica! I didn't mean to whine but I didn't think it was right. thanks, efm |

Div, being a bit cautious on your name, or do you go by "M" Welcome to the forum! BTW, your english sounds darn good to me
Much depends on where you live, importing to the USA can take a long time. Since it has been reworked, I would guess $600-$700 USD... Numerous pictures are the only way to judge half-way, although your description was very good. Ed |

Thank you very much, Edward. I'm currently unable to post any pics, since my digital camera is broken but I'll try to put up some pics as soon as possible.
If your estimation on the worth should prove to be correct, I'd rather keep the gun. I just wanted to make sure I won't shoot a gun, which shouldn't be shot (collector value and so on). Well, thanks again. |

Div, I'd like to see pictures before you run a case of ammo through it, it still sounds like a decent gun.
I personally believe these East German lugers will come up in value and with two matching magazines, even mroe so. Are the magazines marked 1/1001 on the sides? ed

Dear Edward
The Magazines are marked as follows: Magazine #1: "1" and below "72XX" Magazine #2: "2" and below "72XX" On the first one, there's an additional marking just above the round silver knob, which says "fxo" and below, there's a (Reichs-)Adler. Just below the Reichsadler, there's the number "37" On the second one, there's indeed a marking which says "2/1001" also above the silver knob. Hope you can tell me more about those markings. |

Many of these lugers went into Police service in East Germany after WW2, they used what they had. You have a good example, the FXO is a WW2 marking, while the 2/1001 is a post war marking. The 1 and 2 mean primary magazine (#1) and secondary magazine (#2).

Ah, very interesting. As said before, I'll try to put some pics up, so you can get a better idea of the weapon.

Hugh,
I'm sorry I missed your posting, I ended up getting the one I talked about above, it was put on auction arms.com and I got it for $700. It should be here next week. It looks like it is a code 42, 1939 with a S42 togle train in it. Funny it ends up being the very thing I already have.................... thanks for the offer, efm |
