Default VOLPO rig

SOG on the back page of SGN. VOLPO P08 with two mags and holster. One magazine is numbered to the pistol. I have just learned the holster is for the P-38.

$215 + $10 shipping

Ahaaaaaaaa.

Difficult to say from the photo.

The exposed magazine is not a post-war version, but pre-1945. The grips are VoPo grips.

Other giveaways would be a 2/1001 marked magazine numbered to the gun, possibly a barrel with rough muzzle crown and a crown/N proof, X-ed out numbers on small parts (not always) and some other small details.

MJ, like Vlim said, give us more info. Either closer pictures or actual proofs, serial numbers, etc.

The grips are typical east german, however, I use that less and less as a give'away", as they are just grips.... Some folks like them for shooting, etc and just because some cat has babys in the oven, doesn't mean you call them bisquets..

Please post photos here and not on photo bucket...

Gerben et al, Many of the DDR reworked PO8s that came into the US has 2 matching mags. Some of these were WW2 FXOs with renumbered bottoms. It's unfortunate that many parts on these had the serials xxxed out, or worse yet, a matching number etched in. One nice feature of the DDR reworks, was that if the original barrel showed too much wear, they would install a new one, usually marked with a C/N and sometime the date of change (eg: 753 for Aug.1953).Admittedly these were not reworked for sale to collectors, rather for distribution to Communist insergent groups through out the world with "plausable denighability" by the Russians. They have shown up in the middle east (Lebanon), Chile, Cuba, etc. TH

So far, everything screams 'VoPo', so I'd call it one

The holster type was in use for the P08 and the P38 during the DDR years.

It's from long ago, back in 1989 he said. Peaked my interest too, I thought it was something new.

Default I thought I made it clear this was a blast from the past.

For a time in the early to mid 80's SOG had some sweet deals on E. German P38's and P08's as well as K98's and G43's. Even had HSC's in 380 ans .32 apc for $100 with two mags and holster. $150 unfired .45's and the like.

Cheers

And a thanks to Mr. Heller for all his help back then. I was sorry to see him move away from the coast.

He didn't say that in the post, that's why I started foaming at the mouth for more info and where to buy one or maybe 10. I PM'd him and he responded with this...

I got from SOG for $212 in 1989. That's Southern Ohio Guns. I still have the SGN ad some place, I'm looking for it now.

BTW, this is the EXACT reason that posting pictures on image bucket and the like is frowned upon....

I have No friggin idea what the h$%^l these pictures used to look like.

Quit posting them using these "free" sites, they don't allow you to save long or you decide to delete.

Well hell.... just shoot me now instead of in 3 weeks.
