Did you see any sign that "used shells must be tossed in the garbage bin"?
Here a some close to where I live at the moment; http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bilde:A...g-fortress.jpg This is one of the three German 280mm canons on Oscarsborg fortress (protecting the sea entrance to our capital Oslo). It's ironic that when the Germans first attack on Norway 9th of April, their attack was responded by these german made canons. The large warship Bl¼cher where sunken in the battle and is still down there leaking oil. http://www.flekkeroy.no/kanon411.jpg This is the only 380mm "Krupp" canon in the world, build by the Germans and left here for us to play with.

There is a 280m/m Krupp cannon in southern China, but I run out of time and could not visit this time. According to historical record, it was built by Krupp in 1893, caliber 280m/m, full steel weight 50 tons, dimension 13.13m(L) x 4.6m(H) x 5.29m(W), 84 rifling lines. The price was 60,000 ounces sterling silver in 1894.
Will visit next time. |

Nice stuff, I'd like to see a holster for one of those things!
Picked up a 280mm shell with my brother not too long ago (he collects that stuff). Nice contrast with a 9mm round |

A rather silly video of the 380mm Krupp canon I linked to above can be found here; link
The blast in the video is ..needless to say, a fake. There was one attempt to fire it after the war, without any projectile. But the blast destroyed the windows in the houses near by. So that idea was put on hold ..and here is an interesting video showing a German 280mm railway canon;another link
