Good luck with your project. The Uric Acid contained in urine, along with NaCl(salt) should react with the metal and begin the "aging" process.

While waiting for the C96 'test' piece to soak, I browsed the Web and found sites stating that Phosphoric acid would etch nickel/chrome...Various household products were mentioned...I don't have any of them...But Naval Jelly has Phosphoric acid in it (a very mild solution)...So I brushed that on one of the nickel plated Mec-Gar mags and left it overnight...The pic below shows how it affected the nickel...Not really etched...More like tarnished...
Not exactly what I'm looking for...But it is a step in the right direction...

OK, it's been 48 hours since the C96 receiver/barrel was placed in the...solution...I took it out, washed it off in dish detergent & water, and this is how it looks...(First pic)...
Barrel took the...solution...quite well; a grayish-black color...The receiver didn't take the...solution...very well...I'm thinking about touching that up with cold blue ["44-40"]... Again, it's not exactly what I was hoping for...But it's better than the bare steel... A side-by-side comparison, before & after...(Second pic)... Next step is to soak the 'tarnished' magazine, see if anything happens...
