S.Kz 8.
Any ideas on the identity of the markings S.Kz 8. on the front strap of a 1918/1920 DWM Luger? Not my gun but thanks for any help.

Tom:
Beginning on page 98 of Joachim Gortz and Don Bryans book titled, "German Small Arms Marking", there is a discussion of the No. 40 a Series , Instructions for the Prussian Police: Admoinistration and Maintenance of Weapons, Weapon-Related Technical Equipment, Ammunition and Bycycles of Police and Constabulary," Berlin, 1932. On page 103, there is a "List of Stamps" shown relating to this instruction. Within this list stamp, #1 is the "S" stamp for Schutzpolizei (municipal police). Stamp #36 is "Kz." for the Koblenz district. So without actually seeing the front grip strap of this Luger with its stamp, I believe that "S.Kz. 8." marking equates to the Schutzpolizei, Koblenz district, waffe #8. Certainly encourage others to chime in with their opinion of this interesting unit marking. Ron |

Ron is correct. See also pp. 125-6 of HWIS.
