Default Obama gag order on Gun Blogs and Forums

Get ready... here they come.

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/nr...rticle/2565762

Publish technical detail on firearms from within the good old USA and become a target for prosecution...

Here are the items on the ITAR prohibited items list:

http://www.pmddtc.state.gov/regulati...R_Part_121.pdf

They conveniently include firearms and ammunition. This will particularly impact discussion of reloading components and ammunition cartridge formula.

That can be rather worrying can't it?

I guess he never read the constitution. Isnt there something in our (maybe not his) constitution about freedom of speech? Jim

Sounds pretty frightening. I'm skeptical. I found the Washington Examiner site quite obnoxious--pop-up windows, ads for nonsense obliterating the screen--needing to be "x"-ed out.

Gentlemen, do not look at the shiny, swinging object. Whenever something like this comes up, (and this will not withstand freedom of speech nor restriction of commerce scrutiny), there is always something they are trying to get away with/push through while everybody panics over the hot button issue.

There is a followup at the NRA site with a recommended action to take now:

https://www.nraila.org/articles/2015...related-speech

I wrote them with this: (Feel free to copy as approprite... the address and required subject line is below... )

Addressed to: [email protected]

Subject: ITAR Amendment—Revisions to Definitions; Data Transmission and Storage.

As a nationally certified firearms safety instructor and North Carolina state DOJ certified CCH instructor, I am very concerned about the State Department's intent to reinterpret the ITAR regulations to inhibit or prohibit online Internet based discussion of firearms or related ammunition.

At a minimum, specifications, techniques and designs which are related to Gun Control Act regulated products and services should be considered as exempt from any ITAR restrictions.

Gunsmiths, manufacturers, re-loaders, and do-it-yourselfers could all find themselves muzzled under the rule and unable to distribute or obtain the information they rely on to conduct these activities in a safe manner. Prior restraints of the sort contemplated by this regulation are among the most disfavored regulations of speech under First Amendment case law.

Regulation of this speech is a clear infringement of a citizen's rights as recognized and protected from government interference by our Federal constitution's Second Amendment.

I urge you to cease further efforts in this area.
