New guy with Interarms Swiss pattern Mauser

New to the forum, thought I'd show my sole Luger and ask a tech question.

I purchased this Swiss pattern 9mm 4" barrel from a gun store outside of Chicago in the mid 1980s. When I moved to California the box and literature vanished in the move but I fortunately retained the loading tool that came with the pistol.

It has had an issue extracting fired cases for some time. I replaced the extractor spring with a Wolff spring which cured it for awhile but it is back again. I mostly shoot handloads which have no issues in any of my other 9mm pistols. Is it possible that the chamber dimension is tight and the cases are slightly too long for the chamber, causing them to stick? I'll try it with Federal ball tomorrow and see how it does and if the fired cases extract reliably.

Rufrdr, welcome to the forum. Nice Interarms luger. If you are going to experiment with different types of ammo, try Winchester White box 115gr ball, as that appears to be the preferred choice here.

Whenever I have moved I always lose items that I can never find and find items that I lost from the last move.

Congratulations on your Interarms luger.

The holsters are not very common, and it's good to see you have your's. Is it interarms marked, or made by another party?

Make sure you support the gun firmly when you shoot it. Also clean and lubricate the receiver and frame rails to ensure smooth cycling.

Check the face of the extractor to ensure it hasn't been chipped or damaged. Also verify that the well it sits within is clean and free of debris.

By all means try several brands of factory 115 or 124g NON +P ammo.

One can't tell much about how a pistol functions using reloads, esp. luger, IMO.

I've used Winchester White box, Federal, S&B, and Fiocchi all without problem. Some have reported troubles with Remington ammo.

Just got back from the range after using Federal 115 gr ball. out of 25 rounds I had one partially extract but none left in the chamber.

I haven't cleaned it for awhile, not that it is shot that often, so I will do a good cleaning on it tonight.

I've replaced every spring in the gun except the mainspring. All of them were weak and either broke or just weren't functioning correctly.

The holster is unmarked but very well made, heavy stitching and copper rivets with a plug in the bottom with a drain grommet

When my wife saw the pistol she commented on how 'sexy' it was. Later on she presented me with some of those 'boudoir' photos of her with come hither eyes cradling the pistol. I wasn't quite sure what message she was sending me but it was sexy as hell!

Thanks for the advice on the pistol issues, I'll clean 'er up and give it another go.

Give the chamber a good brushing when you clean the luger.

I'm not sure how much cleaning you need to do for "another go".

Look closely at the extractor claw. There should be two fingers to the claw. It is not uncommon for one finger to break off, as the extractor snaps over the case rim when coming fully into battery. The extractor groove that the extractor lays in can get quite fouled and impede correct extractor function.

I have had good results with PMC 115gr FMJ ammo if it is available to you. You can perform a "plunk test" with your ammo to determine if it is cambering completely. Some Lugers can be quite ammo sensitive. I also own and shoot an Interarms Mauser Parabellum(and love it!).

There was a bit of grime in the well that the extractor sits in. The extractor itself had a bit of shavings and a bit of gunk in it so I used a dental pick to clean it out. Lubed it up so it is ready for another try sometime in the next several months.

Rhuff, is that Mauser copying the two prong Swiss extractor claw, or was the Interarms Swiss unique in having the two claw fingers???

As far as I know Mauser used the Swiss blueprints to tool up for the Interarms Lugers.
