Default Leather Drum Carrier

I've gotten into it again with folks on another sight. I stated that there were never any issue leather drum carriers and the only authentic examples observed have been canvas.
Will knowledgeable folks confirm?

Hi Doug,
All the leather ones I've seen have been dated 1916, since trommel magazines were only introduced in 1917 you can draw your own conclusions.

Seems to me that Jerry Burney weighed in with that same opinion some time ago. And his word is Gospel (or pretty close to it...).

The only Trommel Magazine carriers were coarse fabric.

If there were any leather carriers there would be surviving examples just like
all the other associated leather holsters belts etc.... But no examples are known...
it would have been a logical choice in the 1920's for police use with the Bergman
But none are know ..... Also if you study period photo's only the canvas carriers
are seen .... No leather carriers are seen in photos ....

Makes sense. They were already "short" on leather and a leather carrier is way more labor intensive than a cloth "bag". JMHO.

Should you come across a leather carrier, I suggest putting a mag into it. Then withdraw it and you'll understand that they are pure fantasy. It damn near takes three hands to put a mag in or to take it out. Not very combat friendly.
