He made it "thinner" = less spring tension.

The Sarco replacements are about .020 - 019 Thick ...Original springs are in the neighborhood of .016 - .017 thick...I used a Dremel with an abrasive rubber wheel and went longways taking it down to .016 without over heating the spring...Held unit with a fine pair of needle nose pliers while doing it...Since the Sarco springs are stamped out using a die, they will have a burr all round which needed to be removed also...The object was to get it down and make it thinner as Don suggested... Making the spring thinner around "hook" area also helped with installing it in the HO slot as the original thickness would not allow it to "go"in the slot...

I just picked up a hold open spring from sarco, as it was the last part l needed for my project, and am having the same issue, l wasn't sure if it was the spring or mag causing it, after reading this l think it may be both, l will try doing as you suggested, if a new Mec Gar mag doesn't fix it, thanks
