1916 DWM - Please help Newbie
Just purchased 1st P 08 and would much appreciate feedback regarding markings or any other information that can be determined from pictures. The external numbers match with exception to magazine. It shoots very well and I'm excited to own such a marvelous built pistol.

Germany stamped on the right is, I believe, an import mark. The numbers on the back are unit markings. I don't have my book woth me so I can't tell you exactly which one it is

Thanks for response. Attached are a few more pictures showing additional markings plus left and right side of pistol. Grips both have number 54 stamped on inside. Looks like 8.82 stamped near barrel serial number.

Welcome to the board.
Have a look here while you are waiting on more comments: http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=13121 Unit stampings in that particular position on the rear frame are usually Reichswehr provisional markings; that said, those are pretty strange, both in font and alignment.

The 8.82 number is the bore measurement between the lands in millimeters.

As stated earlier, this unit marking is non-standard in terms of both location and font size. However, it is not uncommon to see non-standard markings on mid to late WWI Lugers.
Your marking of "16.A.2.132" is refers to the Artillery Regiment No. 16, Company (actually Battery) 2, 132 waffle issued. Congrats, a very nice piece of history!!. Ron |
