Scan the shooting and reloading section of this forum. Some members reload the .30 Luger and I'm sure you will benefit.
Welcome aboard! dju |

Welcome Jim!
I have several .30 Luger shooters and plan to reload as well. BTW, you're allowed one free misspelling of "Luger, " which you must still, nonetheless, edit to correct!

+1 on misspelling allowance! Don't worry about it, I have made worse mistakes and I am not a newbie. Welcome to the wonderful insane world of Lugers!

If you are new to reloading, I strongly recommend you find a NRA certified Metallic Cartridge Reloading course. They are taught nationwide. Even experienced reloaders that attend this course learn quite a bit.
The .30 Luger cartridge is not a straight wall cartridge. The case has a shoulder. This is a bit more difficult to size and load for than the straight wall 9mm Luger cartridge. I've also been told that it can be difficult to find appropriate FMJ bullets of the right weight in this caliber.

I agree with Marc 100%. I have been a handloader for a long time, and one should not try to learn to reload on 30 Luger brass as his/her first try. Neck tension is very important with this cartridge, and 30 Luger brass has a very short neck. This caliber is also a high pressure round compared to 45ACP or 38 Special.
Check out the reloading section as there have been a number of threads on handloading this brass.

How 'bout some pics of your Luger? A 4 digit commercial serial number puts it not much past the Test Eagles.

Altho not FMJ, Hornady makes a .309 diameter 90gr. HP bullet. I buy mine at MidwayUSA. It functions great!

It's difficult to find published reloading tables for the 7.65mm Parabellum but if you browse eBay you can find old reloading manuals [50's & 60's] with the data in it. Bullets and loads have changed over the years but by comparing the data for other loads/bullets (9mm Parabellum) against current reloading manuals you can get a good 'feel' for what would be a base point.
I've copied several of the early '30 cal Luger' charts from 50's Lyman manuals, they're in the Reloading forum. I also shop at Midway. For my 7.63mm Mauser and 7.65mm Parabellum I use the Sierra #8005, a .308" dia jacketed lead round nose bullet of 85gr. I prefer RCBS reloading equipment. Their #25001 die set for '30 Luger' comes up fairly often on eBay.
