1914 DWM with R.J.R.65 unit marking
Found this well used but matching except mag 1914 date DWM P08 locally. Probably would have passed except for the unit marking.
Marked R.J.R. M.G.K. 3.5. For the 65th Reserve Infantry Regiment Machine Gun Company 3 weapon 5. The 65th R.J.R. was raised in the Rhineland area of Germany. According to what I've read it was part of the 16th Reserve Division and saw service in 1914 In Champaigne(France), then the Soission Valley and the Somme. In 1916 it was transfered to the 208th Division and sendt to Galicia in Poland- fighiting the Russians at Brezany and Holicz. In November of 1916, they were transferred back to the Western Front, and re-engaged in the continuing battle of the Somme. In 1917 they were still engaged in France, and in 1918 they took part in the Battle of Picardy. All in all , a long a rigorous war for the 65th R.J.R. for sure. In addition to being a unit marked P08 from 1914 that survived to be souveniered to the US; it is marked with Bo(umlaut) for Bohler Steel.

Very nice with the Böhler number as would be expected on a 1914.
