Default P08 byf 41 with disc on right grip....???

I've been discussing with VIS35 about the above that I picked up at a local show. It is all matching #92xxa with all waffenampts intact and obviously a rebuild from Russia or E.Germany. But unusual with all waffenampts intact and all matching. It has an extruded magazine with plastic bottom and the most unusual of all, it has a metal disc in the middle of the right grip. There are no markings on it, but it looks kinda like a washer without a hole. It has a center screw rather than two across from each other. The significance for the disc is up for debate..any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ol'Duke

Default definitely going to need a photo on this one Ol'Duke

See the image to see what I mean. The reason for opposing grip screws is so the magazine can pass between the grips.

The metal disk may have been for some kind of property mark that never got stamped...

It wouldn't be an identification disc as used on Finnish Lugers would it?

Any SA in a box markings on the pistol?

I rechecked it last nite because I was going to take the disc off and see if anything was on the other side. No screw as I had thought earlier. It is a small nail and does not go through the grip...so you can imagine how small it is. I have no way of posting any pics. I'm behind the times, I know, but heh, at least I can type.

There are no marks whatsoever on the disc and no indications of Finn ownership. Heck, if it was SA marked, I'd have paid twice the $400 for it, either because he new what it was or because I'd have had to beat Tuco to it, since he was standing next to me. I did that to him on a 1925 CCCP and SA marked Nagant and he hasn't forgiven me yet for getting it and having the nerve to ask the guy if hed take less...

Anyway..the P08 just has to be E.German IMHO and the disc is probably somebody's personal marker.

Ol'Duke...

Is the disk inletted into the grip so that the surface is about even with the grip surface? If not, I would guess it is some sort of individual add on, I have no idea why or if it was done post war. As far a the East German re-works go, if might be interesting for everyone to know that not all of these that exist in the U.S are import marked. There were some that found their way in during the 50' and 60's (not thru legit import channels) and many more that were sold to U.S military personnel thru "Rod and Gun Club" exchange stores in the mid to late 80's. These pistols bore no import stamps. These pistols were being sold to the West Germans well before the Berlin Wall went down and in turn a number were sold to the Military Exchange.

BCC, not inletted into wood, so it is not flush with the grip. The fellow I bought it from said that he bought it in 1994....and didn't say where he bought it. My gut feeling is that this is an individual marking placed there by an owner sometime in its life...

Thanks.
