Help with Mauser K98 Rifle
I have this Mauser K98 rifle. I don't know a lot about these rifles, so I hope someone here can explain this rifle to me. It is Chamber marked 243 and 1940 date. 243 code indicates manufacture at Mauser-Werke AG, Werk Borsigwalde, Berlin-Borsigwalde, Eichborndamm.
It has a plain non serial numbered and unmarked stock with no disc in the stock for bolt disassembly, instead a hole in the buttstock cap. So, did this rifle originally have a stock with the disk and serial number? Is this possibly an original later war military replacement stock or ? A stock from somewhere else? Thanks, Mark |

Mark your K98k should have a laminated stock with disc marked 26, the stock should be marked with several waffenamts with the serial number on the stock (bottom of stock) It could definitely be a later war replacement Kriegsmodell which lacked bolt takedown disc and lacked most waffenamt proofs. More pics could help.

Mark,
I agree with Jim. Need more pics! If stock is numbered, it may be numbered inside the barrel groove. (need to remove stock to see). Being a 1940 date, all parts on this rifle should be numbered and should match. (bolt assembly, bolt release lever, safety lever, firing pin, stock, hand guard, both barrel bands, bayonet lug, barrel band spring, rear sight, rear sight adjustment, rear sight base, magazine floor plate, follower, butt, trigger housing, trigger housing screws, barrel, and receiver. (I'm sure I missed something?) Matt |
