Default Metal German 30 gun transport chest

Ok, so many many years ago I picked this chest I think from Sarco? Anyway it will hold 30 Luger pistols and is dated Sept 1942. This was back in the day when P08's were coming in from all over. I assumed this was how they shipped the pistols here bulk? Anyone ever seen another one of these? Stenciled on the side as you can see it says New Helvetia Trade Group Sacramento, CA. I looked that up and found they were an importer at one point.

Some of them, I'd need another crate for the rest.

Very impressive Doug! How much does that chest weigh fully loaded, and can you lift it?

I'll throw in a guess before he answers. 72 pounds of Lugers, plus 15 pounds of crate, so I'm guessing 87 pounds total, give or take.

I think the can is repurposed from another use, as there are brackets riveted to the inside that don't seem to have anything to do with the wooden rack or the P-08's.

I think you are spot on with the weight. As for the can I added another pic with the racks removed. Whatever was original intended to go in this I don't know? I was hoping someone here might have seen some old photos of them packing up guns or unloading them in WWII.
