I consider all my Lugers to be "shooters". The Germans who made them weren't afraid to shoot them. If I break a part, I break a part. Not the end of the world. If I wanted to start a museum, I'd buy paintings.

None of them are "virgins". They have all been shot before. Someone else had them before you did, and before that guy, and so on.

Actually, I see it this way!
As mentioned above, all of these Lugers have been shot, if not recently, then for certain decades ago... Most will not ever break if the correct ammo is used, and seldom will break even if the wrong ammo is used! It is a gamble, or crapshoot, and the boogieman is always right there, ready to strike.
I have found that the worst enemy to my collectibles as far as damage or issues related to ownership, are mostly caused by me bumping, dropping, or in any other way possible, causing damage to a gun where before I handled it, it was just fine!.... So, I've come to the conclusion that I don't have the kind of "on-going" luck that is required for shooting an all matching Luger... It will break on me in a heartbeat! The rest of my lifes luck runs about the same. If I don't go looking for trouble, I can pretty much avoid trouble... All my shooters, whether a nice condition miss match, or a pigs ear condition Lugers run fine and seldom break, and that's probably the way i'll roll from here on out... Best to all, til....lat'r....GT... |

To do so, I'd have to get another Luger and not shoot it.

I don't shoot my lugers. I would like to pass them on in as good a condition as possible. To shoot or not to shoot is solely up to the owner. What someone else does is none of my business. Bill

I only shoot a few of mine. One of those is the Artillery with the GT-enhanced snail drum. :-)

No, I would shoot any of them- but I don't; I have shooter lugers for shooting.

This is one of those issues that seem to polarize folks.
1. I never shoot my collectibles, why risk it 2. I shoot all my guns, why have them otherwise 3. I always shoot them once to see how they shoot 4. I shoot my friends collectibles, but not my own 5. My guns were lost in the river when we were crossing the Delaware |

I have Lugers - all matching - that I do not shoot. I also have Lugers that I own just to shoot.

I have not shot my 1900AE and won't. Some of my turn-of-the-century handguns I consider too dangerous to shoot (8mm Gasser; 32 Warner). Other handguns I have not yet shot because I am just too lazy (30 Super/Series 70 Colt auto; Luger carbine). I shot quite a bit when I was younger, then got interested in how they were produced, then got into wildcatting, now I'm into PAC-12 Women's College Gymnastics.

I don't shoot my all matching Lugers. I have a refinished BYF42 and a Interarms Mauser for shooting.
