P-08 extra mag, real or fake?
I have an extra magazine that I can't be sure is real. All the markings seem to be legit except the spare mag's inspector mark
is not legible. I've posted photos. Thanks in advance for your help. |

Dalugdog ---- I'm no authority on inspectors' stamps (and anything else either) but to my tired old eyes the inspector's stamp on the "+" mag doesn't appear correct to me. It sure isn't the same stamp as the one on the other mag's. bottom. Or at least the two stamps weren't made by the same inspector. I have two lugers with matching mags. (same serial numbers as the pistol) and they do not have that kind of stamp. But who am I to judge anyway ??

big open. Thanks for your response. From what little I know, the "+" indicates the spare mag. This "+" is not on the other one. There is a difference in the size of the eagles...
Thanks and regards |

Dalugdog ---- You are correct the "+" indicates a spare mag. (secondary mag.) and the other one would not have a + stamp. Yes, the difference in the size of the two eagle stamps leads me to believe the larger eagle is an added stamp and not original. I have several aluminum mags. with original stamps on the bottoms and none of them appear as the large eagle stamp in your photos. But don't take my word for anything, as I mentioned above I'm no judge or authority on anything. I've been buying lugers since the mid '60's and I'm still learning a lot from the guys in this forum.

That E/655 is a fraudulent marking. The size gives it away. Some A-H applied the marking to good mags.
The marking dies are plentiful. This link is to a eBay seller that has multitudes of dies to make your gun "original". Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/20468958894...sAAOSwCall7ysZ This deception hurts all collectors, both new and experienced. It deceives the unknowledgeable and can ruin original examples. The forum rules preclude me from using the language I would normally state. G2 |

The mag without the "+" stamp appears original to my untrained eye. Too bad someone couldn't leave well enough alone but had to make something with a value into something with very little value except to use as a shooter accessory.

This is why the collecting of historical artifacts is intriguing and fun. All the new knowledge absorbed and the stories behind them, real or imagined. Thanks all for your help.

Well, there is another red flag I see with these magazines. Has anyone ever seen a military fxo magazine with a "x" suffix? I haven't. Any "x" suffix magazine with a fxo marked body that I have seen were marked with a 1 or 2 on the base in Police style.
No 1 or 2 on these. Something is fishy. |
