Mausers 42 dated
Hello,
A week ago I read in a topic that someone was mentionning having both the P08 & P38 made by Mauser in 42. I find myself lucky to have such a pair...which I consider hard to come by as the BYF 42 P38s are not that common. This one was the first one I located a few years back. I've seen only another one since but it was a mismatched reblued pistol with no collector interest... P08 is an H block BW & P38 is Serial no 2899. Of all the military produced pistols, I guess that Mauser offerings in 42 are the only possibility of having both a P08 & a P38 by the same maker... Hi Mark, nice looking pistols!! I have a nice high K-Block byf 42 Luger and almost a twin to your P.38. Mine is serial number 2879, only 20 pistols before yours.

Hello Frank,
Does your P38 has a greyish dull military type bluing ?? This is the kind of finish on this one, quite nice looking in my opinion. Sad that Mauser changed to a more common bluing type in 43...By the way, your K block is very close to the last Military Mauser produced P08s... Nick, That P38 was my first one !! and still my favorite !! I guess I prefer that Greyish finish to higher condition pistols I have...( see photo ) MARK |

Hi Mark, hope you are feeling better every day!
Yes the finish on my byf 42 P.38 is the dull blue type. I don't know why they changed the finish, but I like the 1942 finish better too!! The Luger is about 10,000 from the end of production. Only the L-Block and the first few M-Block have higher numbers. That is, of course, for the German Military Contracts. The rest of the M and N-Blocks went to Portugal and Bulgaria. Cheers! |
