1920 Comm. Vet bring back??
Does anyone know of a verifiable instance. Where a 1920 Comm.DWM vet bring back had the "GERMANY" export stamp on it. I'm looking at an odd 1920. That has the usual, "The vet I bought it from." War story attached to it. Supposedly a combat vet brought it back. Found it in a house in Nuremburg in 1945.
Thanks! Ron

With an import mark, I would take the war story real carefully...take the gun for what it is, not what the sellers says it is...and it is an import 1920 commerical....however I have G.Lugers personal Simson police sear safety and a letter from a guy stating he took it from a underground bunker in Berlin at the end of the war...a few blood rust spots on it, and I can make you a DEAL!...oh ya, the guy who sold it to me passed away a few years ago...but trust me its for real

I'm not jumping in. Just wondering if it's feasible? I truly think it's a made up parts gun. However the price is'nt bad. And it's in nice cond. Makes for a really nice shooter.
Thanks! Ron

Okay...since I am known to think "pigs fly" sometimes...here goes :
A German immigrant living in the USA gets a bit homesick for things German. He buys himself a German luger in the 1920's through one of the east coast distributors. Few years go buy and he has a family and some sons. As Hilter begins to rise in popularity in the 1930's as part of a nationalism movement, one of the sons decides to go "back home" to be part of the German nationalism movement that is on the rise. He travels with the luger previously purchased by his father. This occurs a few years after the lugers in Germany were inventoried and marked "1920"... Eventually war breaks out and the son goes off to fight, but leaves the 1920's luger at home as it is not an Ordnance pistol....but he perishes during the war. The War ends and Germany is disarmed by the Occupation Forces. The 1920's luger is found at the dead soldier's home and somehow makes it into the possession of the GI who liberates the pistol... ...Oh well...so much for my attempt at fiction... Regards... Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" /> |

John, It's a 9mm. However has been re-barreled. Just not sure when or by whom. He's asking $700ish.
I'm pretty certain it's probably a post war re-build. He's says it's a 1920's comm. made up from left over WWI parts. Pete, You've got it figured out! The guy was probably Herman Goerings, Uncle's, Brother's, Cousin's, Nephew on his Mom's side. I'll buy it and pay you a finders fee,and we can retire in Tobago or Mississippi or Arkansas or....? Thanks! Guys

Well, I like ole german homeboy Petes story, but my gut feeling is that if it says Germany, then it was a WW1 or Commerical that was in germany, was refurbished, new barrel for 7.65, sometimes proofs taken off for commerical sale to America or England and ended up in the US of A.

Sounds like a fine shooter Ron. I would offer him $600 CASH and I'll bet he bites...
Owning it might keep you from being tempted from firing one of your collectibles.

Tac, There is a story going around about a British Unit in Iraq. Supposedly they were drilling with unloaded weapons. And were attacked by a large number of Iraqi insurgents. The Seargent, ordered them to fix bayonets. And they performed a bayonet charge against Iraqis. And repelled the heavily armed Iraqis, with only minor injuries.
Is this a true story? I have seen nothing in our paper nor heard anything officially. Ron

Tac, I did not mean to imply that anyone was fabricateing anything. I was merely stating that we had heard of this event. And were not sure if it actually took place.
Now , may I please be excused, for bringing to light, the Heroic actions of the British Forces?! SIR!
