7" Arty Barrels
This is the second one I have seen! They both had the Made in Germany stamp and both have been Artillery barrels shortened to 7". The barrel band is gone! Anybody know more about these?

Hi Ted! I don't know the why....but I do know the where! Sarco had them for sale in the mid 80's, I had one, but it looked kinda strange to me so...I sold mine to Tom Heller....he has probable seen a few of them.... As for being shortened, I sure don't know why anyone would do such a thing?!! till...later...G.T. <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

I have two of these bbls. The front sight arrangement is different on one from the other. I don't know the why.

Ted, I've seen at least a dozen LPO8 barrels so modified. My theory is that if an Artillery came in for rework with a bad fine tune front sight, rather than taking the time to fix it, the arsenal would chop it off at the rear of the barrel band and tack on a Mauser broom type of fixed front sight. I agree with Tom. IMO, shortening the barrel to 7 inches was a means of repairing or salvaging a barrel with a damaged muzzle.
