Jerry the attachment for the lanyard for the 1911A1 I carried was metal, imagine it scratched the gun. ~~never noticed~~ I guess when you are just using it, you make sure it is cleaned and ready for use, but you don't think too much about the finish

Ed, You are right. I have a Remington Rand and an original lanyard and it is metal and clipped on. The WW1 American lanyards were the best. WW2 lanyards were klunky, too fat and really marred the pistol. Good observation I had not thought about! Jerry Burney

Hello,
took a picture of my Lanyard loop, which I purchased a while ago with a Artillery Luger.
This one remembers me on Bulgar style because of the peak of the dot. It is not the best quality - probably somebody can tell me more?

Total lengh: 36 inches

Pistolero,

If the leather is of poor quality and the workmanship bad, Bulgar is generally a pretty good guess.

MISTERY SOON SOLVED !

I will post on Monday a picture of a couple of my Portugese metal loops with a copy of the original packaging label in Portugese.

It indicates "swivel for lanyard for 908 and 943 model pistols"

Here are pictures of Alain's Portuguese lanyard swivels and original ID tag that he obtained directly from a Portuguese arsenal.

Ron, Alain..Thank you for the photo's of the swivels and Portugese ID tag.

Alain, If you have any further information on these I would like to know it. These swivels are made exactly like German swivels. This begs for some explanation. Do you by any chance have an accurate translation of the wording on the tag? This might go a little ways towards deciphering the mystery.

I can only speculate, but I suspect since they are not complete lanyards they might have been sent along with the pistols for examples by the Germans. The ID tag seems to me to indicate something, but what?

This is very interesting and facilitates my research into Luger lanyards, I thank any and all who participate or can add anything to this conversation.Please if you have any solid facts let them be known.

Since I cannot say for absolutely sure the Portugese lanyard has either the brass and leather swivel or the clip type I would welcome more information. Unfortunately there are few people in the World who can answer`this important question. From what I have been able to gather the Portugese lanyard is indeed exactly like the first photo in this post. This would leave the brass and leather attachment type swivel to the German theater. Thanks again, Jerry Burney

Hi Jerry,

My brother contacted me and reported that another 'dutch' lanyard loop was offered for sale at a dutch auction site.

It's exactly the same as the one I own, albeit in a bit less perfect condition.

I've placed a bid on it, try if I can get my hands on that one too. If I get it, I woudn't mind letting you have it for the cost price.
