9 mm Colt 1911

I just got the slide from my 9 mm Colt back today. This old shooter just destroyed the collector value of a rare factory 9 mm 1911 by having Bomar low mount sights installed on it. Hot dog, what a great sight picture. Now if someone could put one of these sights and a matching dovetailed front sight on a luger, he would have a real shooter.

Outstanding!! In so far as destroying any value - what value is to you if you can't modify it the way you want?? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I installed Bo-mar sights on my Colt Combat Delta Elite was back when... How was I to know it would become a "collectors" piece today, as it was a very limited run.

Heck - but for the last 15 or so years, I've enjoyed it 'cause it's the way I want it to be... AND - it shoots GREAT!!!

Yes, my guns are for me not the guy who owns them next. I have about 3 (maybe 4 or was that 5 ??) 1911s that have been heavily modified by several retired service armorers over the last 35 years before the Wilson, Brown, etc. guns came on the market. My guns might have been worth maybe $1000 today to collectors if unmodified but I personally have reduced their value to maybe $400 or 500. But I have had many years of fun with them and two of them will shoot one hole groups at 25 yards all day long with my reloads. I won lots of trophys with them in club shoots before I wore out my ears.

Anyway, I intend to use the 9 mm for much of my shooting now (I now have about 1200 rounds through it--why not, I have owned it maybe 4 months) since Wal-Mart ammo is so cheap. I would put a Bo-Mar or S&W revolver sight on my '36 Mauser, reduce the trigger pull to 3#, and change to an extended safety if this was practical. Oh well, I can shoot the 1911 and admire the Lugers.

I find it the same thing with "collector" cars.

Guys who bought a 1967 Mustang, then NEVER drove it, it is worth 5 times or more the original value, but the guy never had any fun with it????

I guess another saving feature is the price I paid for some of these old guns. One 1911 (my DCM gun) cost $12.50 plus $4 shipping, another I bought from a private party cost $35 and a clunker that needed a few parts cost $7.00. Try to find these prices today. Even a 1911-A1 I bought from a private party cost only $100 and my DCM-M1 garand cost about $95.

Win some, loose some. Happy shooting (and driving Ed). PS, my '86 Lincoln Mark VII with 17,000 original miles is for sale (I do appreciate some collector items).

I shot the 9mm 1911 with the new Bo-Mar sights yesterday. Great sight picture, had to increase elevation 15 clicks and move it 3 clicks to the right. The gun functioned 100% through 100 Wallymart Winchester rounds. All shots are now in the black at 25 yards on a standard NRA target--about 3-4" groups, not a tackdriver by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm surprised it isn't more accurate. It's pretty tight and the collet bushing grips the barrel tightly. Oh well, it's cheap to shoot without reloading. Now maybe I'll ... (It never ends does it?)

However - I did note that, typical of Italian cars - the driver controls apparently are on the wrong side. Just thought I'd mention it in passing.... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Churchills, eh? I'm more a Purdy man myself - or even Holland & Holland (Royal fan). W. & C. Scott early production is pretty fair as well - especially the wood. Engraving was rather poor, however....

Tac, that's a beautiful car and, of course, Churchill makes a beautiful gun. I couldn't afford a decent English double while there but I did buy an Armas Garbi sidelock double from a shop in Norwich. I don't recall the name of the shop but they advertised in the gun magazines and carried a huge stock of items. I also have a Merkel boxlock that I paid 320 pounds for in 1986 when the dollar rate was favorable.

Now if I could just find a way to get some of those wood pigeons over here.........
