Pete,

I saw them in Vegas. They had a Walther MP, which later became the P.38. This one was in .45 cal. They estimate it's worth at 100K. They have several Krieghoff Lugers in the auction, but most say they're partially restored. None of these were displayed at the Vegas show.

From my quick gunship pilot pass, most of the stuff was *exceptionally* specialized, with price estimates on the moon, or relatively garden variety stuff that one sees day to day on the better lists, but with a hammer premium of 12.5%.
No one is being done a favor here.

Hello Tom,

My suggestion here about this auction was a chance for some beginners (including me...) to visit the preview day for an educational experience. It is not often in CA-State that you get to see more than 2-3 lugers in the same place either at shows or shops.

This opportunity would allow one to go and play that "What type/variation of luger is this... ?" and "Is this luger correct, and if not, what is wrong... ?" game; to help build our skills...

Unlike our gun shows here in the State, we are at least guaranteed to see some lugers in person...

p.s. Lot # 491 sure looks like a decent LP-08 (Arty) rig, to me...much better than that suprious rig just recently discussed on the LF in the LP-08 section...

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Pete,
just looked at #491. It bugs me to see an artillery Luger to be called a 1914 DWM only to find out that they mean model-1914 and that its really a 1917 artillery. But the holster looks like it could be a pretty good original. I would sure like to take a closer look at it. An original artillery holster with all its attaching leather is a hard find. I would like to look at the stock to see if its original. The closer that rig is to the low price of $2000 the better the deal would look just to get the holster and the attaching leather. Again, I would sure like to get a closer look and maybe even $3000 might be good. But then there is that 12% hammer to think about.

I recently bought a type 1 Trommel snail drum off of the guy who bought the spurious rig that you mentioned. He confirmed that the stock was a counterfeit and that the gun was not as good as the pictures indicated. He kept it and sold the stock to a friend of his who knew that it was a fake. I can't recall what he said about the holster.
