luger grip care
I just bought an Erfurt Luger dated 1916 all matching off an old gentleman who approached me at a gun show he only wanted 500 dollars so i couldnt pass it up it is in great shape he got it in germany during 1944. He needed money so he decided to sell it. I thought that it was a cheep price. i know nothing about lugers but i collect p-38s so what is the guns actual value is it more than i paid and one more question what can i put on the grips to keep them preserved so as not to have them crack

Welcome Alexs!
The grips should have very little put on them, less is better than more (i.e don't oil soak them). I cleaned mine, using Murphys Oil Soap, then put linseed on them. Can you tell us any other markings on the gun? Proofs? (see on your left under tech information if you came through www.lugerforum.com) Tell us what and where proofs and markings are located. There are forms in this section, where you can print out and then write down pertinent information. What serial number is on the gun? To include any letters next to or under the serial number? Can you provide pictures, to include side, top, etc?

In the general information section of the forum, the spectacularly talented and very curmudgeonly Art Buchannan has a very informative piece on grip restoration and maintenance. I commend it to your reading.

For $500 if it's all there and shoots straight, you did alright.
