Default old 9mm luger brass?

I live on the island of Saipan, Mariana Island. I recently found a 9mm auto brass. Stamped on the base is "METALLVERKEN 9.00". The length of the brass is 18.5mm. The rim and base are both 9.5m. Does anyone know anything about this round or its possible age. The Germans purchased the islands in June 1899 and gave them up to the Japanese in September 1914. Could this brass be from that time?
