What am I missing?
Can anyone give me a clue why this gun is worth $1000+ or am I just not seeing something?

You got me RK! I don't have a clue... I could see if it was a prime example at the height of production, but this rifle isn't worth $100 to me...let alone $1000+

Open your eyes man! That's REAL Japanese rust on that rifle, not the fake stuff Japanese collectors so liberally sprinkle on their rifles. Jack

Some folks are hung up on so called "Last Ditch" weaponry. The prices that some of the Volksturm pieces command is ridiculous.

I really don't understand it. Only thing I can see is that its a shorter barrel than the standatd last ditch types. Look at the number of bids for it. Its up to $1400 now.
Must be something special about it, here are a couple of more: http://www.auctionarms.com/search/di...temnum=7082030 http://www.auctionarms.com/search/di...temnum=7082167 http://www.auctionarms.com/search/di...temnum=7088095 rk |

Judging by the number available, the "last ditch" must have been a long one.

Over 1600 now and man is it ugly. My Bud has a Ariska bring back from his grandfather with bayonet. Man is that thing long and heavy, can't imagine being 5 foot 5 130 lbs humping that thing around in a steaming jungle all day.
