Default 1941 BYF Sideplate #

Does anyone know if it is proper for this late Luger to have no number on the interrior of the sideplate? It appears to be matching in every way but no interior #...1941 BYF Actually a 41 over the chamber.
Thanks, Jerry Burney

Jerry I always thought the inside number on a 41 should be 1 number higher than the first two digits of the serial number. As you know it's very possible this was not always done. If the serial number on the sideplate looks correct I for one would not worry about the inside. Just looked at my byf 41 and it is numbered one above the first two digits. Bill

I have two 41's that are all matching and they have no number inside.

Jerry, of the 13 byf Lugers that I have / had, 2 were unmarked, the others are numbered 1 higher than the first two digits of the serial number. So I would say most are marked, but not necessarily all of them!! Hope this helps.

Frank, Thanks for the input! I have one other question..The Gesichert, safety, Is it painted in on these late Lugers? I thought the Germans were tightening up at this late stage and mine looks as though is has never had any paint in this area.
Thanks! Imperial Lugers are my interest and I have little time to study Third Reich Pieces. Jerry

Jerry, The one matched numbered BYF 41 that I have does have a number one higher on the inside of the sideplate than the first 2 numbers of the serial number. Appears with or without inside numbers are correct.

My BYF 41 is is all matching with original 95% finish and dose not have the number on the inside of the side plate.
Also there is NO white paint in the "Gesichert"!
I have often wondered about the "no paint" also, glade you brought it up.
