First Luger - should I?

Still looking for my first Luger. I've been offered one described as follows:

DWM wwI imperial luger dtd. 1915 w/matching holster. Gun is all matching except magazine, which is WWII. Has regiment marking on grip strap. Holster is brown and is all there, no tears, stiching good, dtd 1915 cannot make out mfg name, cond vg, does not have tool. Overall pistol shows some wear on high spots and i would rate it as vg, 85% or better.

I've added some pictures. Really appreciate anyone taking any time for some help on my decision. Thanks much in advance!

depends on how much? Appears to be a nice luger.

What is the regiment marking and is that on holster or gun?

Ed - thanks for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate it! The price is 1350.00 for the set. The regimental marking is on the guns grip strap. Think I should go for it?

Hi Steve,

I had a chance at this same Luger. Unfortunately, I had my available funds ear marked for another pistol. This is a very good deal. If I would have had the money, I would have been on it like a bum on a ham sandwich.

It also has a nice unit mark and the grips are unique in that they have a 9 branded into them, indicating 9mm.

I am not sure as to the originality, but they could have been placed there by an armorer who didn't translate the order correctly.

Ron, thank you very much for the insight and advice. Sounds like I've found a Luger to buy! One think I didn't quite understand is your remark:

I understand that the 9 on the grips is unusual, but I don't understand the remark about the armoror "who didn't translate the order correctly"
Could you explain that to a greenhorn please? Thanks again for taking time on this.

the 9mm is unusual, in the sense I have never seen one like this... I think Ron is referrring to the Red 9 on some grips, as it was required to place the red 9 on grips to differeentate between 9mm guns and 7.63mm, but this was for brooms. And at times unit armorers thought this was for lugers, but was for broomhandles.

I think the price is not bad, especially if the holster is included, as brown holsters fetch a premium on ebay.

Some unit marks are worth more than others, and that is why i was curious as to the exact markings.

The unit mark is unusual also. Res. 133. 10.

Reserve Infantry Regiment 133. Stab (Staff) weapon #10

This is what makes me believe that the 9s on the grips are original. Not only are they not to regulation, as far as size and application, but the unit mark is not stamped to regulation either. Instead of a cursive R which would be correct, the armorer stamped Res. This would indicate to me that whomever marked this pistol, didn't have a grasp of the correct marking procedure.
