What a beautiful place. It is nice to put a face with the name. My Christmas present to myself was Central Powers. I am really enjoying the book. Merry Christmas to you and everyone on the boards.

Merry Christmas to all of you from the Land of the Midnight Sun!
PS Jan: Your dog looks very much like the Norwegian Lundehund.

Balder
You mentioned the Norwegian Lundehund. Echo is a beagle Chihuahua mix (He is a friend of the surviving Lundehund).

There is a very interesting story concerning two Lundehunds and a wolf. First I will describe the wolf. Itâ??s a black lone wolf. It frequents a frozen over lake that is a ski recreation area. People are fascinated with this wolf and have nicknamed it Romeo. It plays with their dogs and has grabbed one small dog and ran off with it.

The incident took place about 20 miles north of Juneau at a remote house. A 0.5 mile trail leads to the home located on the edge of the ocean. This home has a dog door. The folks that built and own this house had two Lundehunds that were purchased at great expense (The hounds were bred to climb cliffs and raid Puffin nests). These folks work every day and leave their dogs out to explore the wilderness. About one year ago they returned from work and only one badly wounded dog was at the house. It appeared to have been shot. An exit and entrance wound through its chest suggested that it had been shot. The hound was taken to the vet where it was revealed that a wolf bite caused the wounds.

The next day these folks back tracked their Lundehunds. They saw where the wolf had tracked the dogs and then attacked them. It was the younger smaller dog that survived. They thought that the young dog was attacked first and the older dog battled the wolf giving the smaller dog a chance to escape at the cost of its own life. Later the wolf den was found. However, no trace of the missing Lundehund was ever found.

It is suspected the lone wolf named Romeo had lost its fear of people and is sometimes eating small dogs.

Jan,

Thanks for sharing a very interesting story, the Lundehund is one tough little dog. Sorry for straying off topic.

Happy New Year!

M E R R Y C H R I S T M A S from me and my personal 10 week old dachshund Christmas gift, "Kaiser". Wonder how I got that name? Anyway, he is, at the moment, too busy chewing on my toes which I sadly must admit are in also my favorite house slippers. At this rate, he won't live the 21 years that the original Kaisers dachshund lived. But I am sure that he would also like to add a H A P P Y NEW Y E A R to everybody.

Hope everyone has a great New Year with lots of new toys. We are especially thankful since my wife now has a new kidney. Doesn't get better than that . Bill
