1920s 7.65mm Alpha Commerical

I received this 1920's Commercial from Lugerdoc just yesterday and want to give Tom Heller a BIG THANKS!

It arrived well packed and is just as he described. Tom thoughtfully packed it in a nice gun rug too. I am well pleased and my wife is thrilled since it is her Luger now. She and I share a small collection. The Commercial is in excellent condition with just enough wear that we won't be afraid to shoot it on occasion; I do replace the most breakable parts however.

Can anyone comment on the un-numbered blued wood bottom magazine? I thought the wood bottom ones were bright plated.

The correct magazine is bright plated. Unlike older 1900 "dull white" magazine, it's shiny. Zinc plated for this period? (experts please tell me, TIA). The only blued part that I can tell is the pin at the bottom. Peacock blue.

And this gun is indeed a little bit shorter than standard military. Weimar guns are fun.

The blued tube plain wooden bottom magazines are seen in the later Weimar period but who is to say this 1920 era commercial didn't leave the factory with this magazine. I would have preferred to see a chrome plated magazine tube but this blued one is not wrong for this pistol.

Charlie, The mag in question is a Finnish WW2 era replacement. When I acquired this pistol it had a WW2 Schmeisser type mag in it, so I added the only decent condition wood bottomed mag that I had in stock. TH

The magazine can be blued, it does not have to be bright, being this is a 20's commerical there are no rules on LUGERS that could not be broken. Mine is a 1920's commercial and it has a blue magazine and it is correct, also they can have alloy bottoms and be correct. There are blue magazines with wood bottoms.

To my knowledge, DWM never made any blued aluminum bottomed mags. Simson introduced the alum mag bottom in plated tubes in the mid 1920s. Mauser introduced the blued mag tubes in about 1937. Tom

I have to disagree with you. Commercials of the 1920's did not have mags with blued tubes.

Joe,
Most commercials made by Mauser in the 30's had mags with aluminum bottoms. If a commercial made in the 20's (DWM) was sent back to the factory in the 30's, it would be a different factory (Mauser). I've learned when it comes to Lugers it seems there are always exceptions to the rules, but the rule is 20DWM's and Alphabet DWM commercials (all made in the 20's) originally had mags with tin or nickel plated tubes with wood bottoms.

yes, but there is a big difference in any luger having a magazine in it when brought back from WW2, versus a new made luger in 1924 for the commercial market.

And yes, Mike has had hundreds if not thousands of lugers go through his table and "shop".
