Was there ever a "original" target Luger?

I have read that some shooters have built and won target shooting matches with their custom built target lugers. Did any Luger manufacture make what could be called a true target shooting Luger? Even if it was only a one off test model?
Would be intresting to see photos of personal custom built target Lugers. MMM??? In just the target area, was the .30 cal Luger more acurate, tighter grouping than it's big brother 9mm? Just some crazy questions on a cold,lazy.New Hampshire evening.

Mauser made the so called "Sport model" for shooting purposes.

Two different configurations for the .30 luger and 9mm (in the picture).

It is rare and expensive today.

WOW!! What year were they made? Value now? It's a shame, another Luger ment (I know they are are) to be shot in sport, yet it's self maybe so collectable that it best be left unshot.

Bill,
The sport model production has been started around 1975. The production was really limited. The current price is difficult to say; they are really uncommon.

This is now a collectible item.

I just realize that is missing in my collection too...

Bill, I agree with Mauro that the 1980s Mauser Sport Modell was the only "production" target luger made. This not to say the Georg L. didn't make any custom "national match" types at DWM for his buddies on a "one of" basis, possibly in the 10,000 B prototype range. You'll also find pictured in some of the luger books, photos of modified target lugers used by the Swiss in their competitions. TH

Waffenfabrik Bern (W+F) constructed a number of target Lugers, the most famous of which was the 170mm-barreled 1906/29 7.65mm Luger shot by Heinrich Keller of Frauenfeld, Switzerland, in the course of winning the 1949 ISSF competition in Buenos Aires, as seen here.

I've mounted some [shortened] S&W K and N frame sights like yours on M1911's...I see yours screws to a pad attached to the rear toggle...How is the pad itself attached???

I posted an image of a completely custom Luger Target Pistol taken by me at the Nacional Firearms Museum in Buenos Aires, Argentina about a year ago, but I don't know how to bump it over here.

could you post some pictures of the target luger rear toggle showing how the pad / toggle extension is made ?

is it silver soldered on , or welded or ?

or a custom machined one piece rear toggle ?

I remember distinctly that I saw pictures and read a story about a man who won some championship in the 1950s with a luger pistol. I can't remember his name but I saw the pic on the internet somewhere with him firing his luger in a competition.

That was a member of the Swiss olympic shooting team. The pistol he shot with was a specially prepared Swiss 06/29 with a lengthened barrel and target sights.

After the olympics, the guns were dismantled, restored to their military configuration and issued ...

Great photo, wish there was a close up of the Luger. Kind of puts to rest the ability of the Luger provided the right person is pilling the triger. More info on the barrell, twist and what ammo was he using.
