My First Luger!!!
After browsing this forum for a while and doing a much research as a first time buyer can do, I finally took the plunge and bought my first luger. It's a 1937 with all matching serial numbers, even the grips. The Magazine is the only thing that doesn't match. I am basically wondering if you guys could tell me if I got a decent price on it based on the pictures I'm posting, I don't really care if I over paid because I had a really hard time even finding one at under $1000. I wanted to stay under 1000 because I wanted a shooter to start my collection with. I bought it at Sheels here in Reno, NV. so I know I might have spent a little too much, but the gun aprazer in store seemed to not know anything about the gun. (He thought that since there was no swastika stamped on it, it must be a knockoff, but it has 3 little weimar eagles on it) Also, the mag has a wood base, and I'm wondering if that is worth storing and buying a cheepo for shooting so I don't risk breaking it.
Thanks guys! |

If you don't care that you overpaid and you spent under $1,000 then you did not do too badly.
The gun is a reblue and is missing a large chunk of "million Dollar" wooden grip chip near the safety, which would take it out of the collector realm and put it in the $6-700 range. |

I'd like to see more pictures, especially the front of the frame, there were 2 variations of the 1937, all blued and strawed; so I am not sure if it is reblued or not.
The sideplate is the most telling of looking reblued, but the edges are fairly sharp and if a reblue, not a bad one. If not a reblue, you did well, if a reblue, I think a complete 1937 would be still a $750 gun on my table, maybe a bit more. Also, the 1937 would have an aluminum based magazine, so pick up a DDR (east german) mag for around $60-$70 and it'll look right, yet be a shooter magazine. Ed PS: They are nazi eagles....

Thanks for the input on this, I bought it for $800, so a little high, but the cheapest on I could find. I'll get a a pic of the front of the frame as soon as I get back home. I don't know what entirely a reblue entails, but the front of the frame is pretty worn like it's never been refinished.
-Thanks |
