Question about the German Egun auction sight.
Looking over this German auction site, I see some nice Lugers at auction, but I am puzzeled at their price/bid. One item current bid is 2000,00 Euros. the (2000,00) is how all are priced. A comma followed two zeros. Now from what I see $2000 euros = about $3,600 USD. If so, very cheap (auction not finished), but if I add a extra 2 zeros to USD, that would make $360,000. Kind of overboard. So what is a bid at 2000,00 euros? From the sticky I see imports can be long and costly. Are there any German/Europe Luger dealers that will ship to the USA if one is willing to pay the fees and wait?
Tks,Bill |

Hi,
Over here at the civilized part of the world ... ...we use a comma as the decimal point. So 2000,00 Euros = 2000.00 Euros US style. |

Vlim,
So a bid of 2000,00 Euros is about $3,700 USD. I take this Luger carbine must have a high reserve on it. If you visit this site, what is the German word for reserve? A Luger cabine should still be worth quite alot in Germany. Bill |

Bill,
That particular carbine never started life as one, but as a 1921 dated Reichswehr P08. It is a later conversion. Reserve is the same in German, so that helps |

Looks like egun being German version of gunbroker.com, and hermann-historica.com being German version of Rock Island Auction.
Luger price was a little bit lower there occasionally. Never acquired anything overseas, but two questions: (1) Is the gun deactivated? (2) Assume (1) is no, then how to avoid a new stamp adding to it when importing? ..... considering importing fee..... unless it's a very rare one and it's very cheap, importing will be more expansive. |

I've bought 3-4 times at egun before, but just spare parts and stuff, never a gun.
I guess it would be a real hassle to import a gun into the US if you buy from a private seller. The most sellers just sell just within the EU, a dealer with experience will maybe sell out of the EU, too. If there is a reserve, then you can see it right away: This Luger, for example, has a reserve of the amount of 900 Euro, it's the starting price for this auction. I have never seen a "hidden" reserve price. Sometimes Lugers sell really cheap in Germany, especially if they have no modern proof markings. Then they have to get a new proof mark before they can be bought by a private buyer. Only a gun dealer or a collector (with a proper license) may buy one of those guns. Alot of old WW1 and WW2 guns have no modern proof markings. Then there is another reason for cheap prices: In Germany it is really hard to get a license to buy/own a gun. Alot of the weapons are from people who enherited a gun and must sell the gun because the gun license office give them a hard time, this reflects on the prices as well. Alot of them just want to get rid of the enherited gun/guns. Sometimes they just give them away for destruction, just to get rid of it. (BTW: There are about 20,000,000 (20 Million) estimated UNREGISTERED (illegal possesed) guns in Germany, too. That's alot. But only registered guns can be sold on egun, of course. http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=2632519

DO A SEARCH FOR IMPORTING OR IMPORTATION here on the forum; this has been brought up several times.
If you have a C&R, you can do the process and it just takes time.
