ODD LOADING TOOL
There is a loading tool with a notch out of it on page 53 of Luger, Multinational Pistols. Anyone out there know what this was used for? It is sitting on the box of ammo. Let me know if you know what this was for. Jerry Burney

Re: ODD LOADING TOOL
Jerry, I doubt that this is any sort of factory modification, but if for use on the luger itself (as opposed to using the tool as a can opener) the size of the added slot may match the width of the trigger lever in the side plate, and assist in its removal. I once had a loading tool that had the tip of the blade ground down to two points, which worked well to adjust the fine tune sight screws on a LPO8. Tom h

Re: ODD LOADING TOOL
Tom, I have no idea. Your theory is as good as any. The back is cut a little differently as well. Just a strange tool I thought would be interesting. If the screwdriver tip is cut to accomodate a fine sight adjusting tool it would take away another useful part of the tool, the screwdriver. Sort of a win lose proposition there. Jerry Burney

Re: ODD LOADING TOOL
Jerry,
sure do wish that I could see a picture of the tool that you are talking about. I don't happen to have the particular book that you mentioned. From reading Tomh's comment I can understand someone wanting an artilleries adjustment tool. But I can also understand not wanting to mess with a loading tool. Original sight adjustment tools are not that hot either. They are made of brass which breaks easily. Simpson used to have an adjustment tool that was made of stainless steel that I thought might have been better. But he sold out of them and never restocked them. Maybe he found that they scratched the bluing. Maybe they didn't sell so well. Lugers have a lot of odd ball accessories. I remember looking at a Luger bore brush. I could not figure out what it was at first. I thought that it was an old Mosburg .410 shotgun chock. By the time I went through my books and discovered what it was, it was stolen from the dealers table. Oh man, if I could only take back some things that I bought and buy some things that I walked away from. Sorry for the rambling. I stayed up too late celebrating the new year. Big Norm |
