Grip originality question
Guys,
I purchased this luger a while ago from my 70 year old neighbor along with a bunch of other Third Reich artifacts his father brought back with him. I believe this as he cleaned out him fathers belongings at his parents home when he died. Either way, someone removed the grip panels at some point and chipped the one as you see in the pic. I want to have it repaired but when I removed it, this is the only marking I found on the inside. Are these the original grip panels. The old guy says they are but I wanted to ask you guys. I've included pics so you know the pistol the grips are on. If you can't read the date it's 1939. I have this on another forum but I think this one has more traffic, Thanks in advance. |

Hi Jeff, If you go to this link on the other forum, you will see that 1939 Mauser grips are often unnumbered. Your grips look genuine to me and could well be original to the gun. Regards, Norm

Our own Hugh is a wizzard at re-checkering grips. I'm not sure if there is a good fix for putting wood where there ain't none. I'm interested too.

Dave,
Hugh splices a piece of matching wood to replace the chip and then checkers to match. It's nearly invisible when he's done. Ron

Hugh Clark is definitely the man to fix a chipped grip. Here is his email.
