Default Help needed to identify Luger

Greetings all.

I have been offered a 1906 (?) .30 Luger in really nice condition. Notice the fat barrel despite the caliber and the stock lug (is it supposed to be there?). The rear toggle link is mismatched although the seller claims this part is original to the gun, being the explanation for this issue a wrong re-stamping of the s/n. Good try but sounds like a little forced excuse for a nice looking, well preserved and wonderful shooter MISMATCH...

We are probably dealing with a rear toggle link replacement and even a broken breech lock replacement (thirties markings?)...

Price asked is $2000, IMHO too much for what is offered ...

Pablo, you have a very interesting pistol. I would like to see good detailed photos of the following areas...
Left side and bottum of toggle train removed, rear of frame and any markings there, safety lever area with "GESICHERT" marking, muzzel of pistol, and grip safety with left grip removed.

Interesting pistol indeed! It has the short frame, grip safety, stock lug and GESICHERT marked in the lower position. I've seen this combination without the stock lug with some so-called "i" series commercial lugers. The four digit serial number with suffix would seem to exclude it from the 1913 commercial series (70,000 serial range). The suffix letter is hard to make out but I wouldn't be surprised to find it is an "i". This is surely a nice example of the "anything goes" post WW1 commercial luger. The price, IMO, is reasonable.

Vertical Crown N on upper receiver.
Relieved sear bar
That is a strange looking safety marking IMO.

Interesting gun!

Thank you all for your replies...

I now know we have an interesting Luger here...but still have one more question: does the number 50 stamped on the rear toggle link turn this gun into a mismatched one? S/N is 1143...and if so...my guess is that it will affect value, won't it?

Best to you

Pablo

Hello Pablo -

Yes, if the serial number is 1143 then the number on the rear toggle should be 43 too.

Since you have the number 50 this is a mismatch and it does affect the value to a collector. So to a collector, that is probably about a 50% reduction in value.

It makes the gun more of a "shooter" than a "collector" even though it is still an interesting gun.

Thank you for sharing.

The simplest way is often the right way. Nice and interesting but a mismatch...good for shooting...

Thank you for the comments.
