New Collectors! Benchmark & Cornerstone Lugers...
Hello to all, I thought I'd pass this along to our newest and younger Luger collectors....
How many of us, at some time, and maybe still do.. picked up a P.08 and wondered about the honesty of the finish?? The following is my opinion only, and may not be for everyone, but when I first started collecting, or soon after, I made a major effort to get as nice, and honest, of example of the variation I was most interested in collecting... This would probably be looked at as maybe a 98% gun, or better.. At that time, you could still get vet guns pretty easy. Now days, your going to have to buddie up with a veteran collector that you know to be fair.. But, the end result, is to get an example that is a "textbook" all by its self, i.e. bluing, brightness, factory polish marks and direction, stamps, font, etc. etc.... Because, you don't realize what degree of condition you have, until you've had a top condition pistol!! What this does for you, is allow you to pay appropiate prices, and determine value accurately, of lesser condition guns.... So, yes, it can be risky, and true, it's a leap of faith with someone somewhere, but once you cross the honest condition threshold, you're off and running, and then Katie bar the door! The addiction even gets worse!!!!.. Best to all, til...lat'r...GT |
