Help with a pre-war p35 purchase?
Looking at buying this pre-war P35 "Hi Power" and have some questions....
First off, is this really a pre war? It's got the BROWNING PATENT DEPOSE on the slide which gives me doubts, though I know his involvement dates back as far as the early 20's. Here are the pics, I've got roughly 2 hours to decide if I want it. It's advertised as a pre-war P35 with original buttstock/holster. I'm really stepping up money wise to buy it, so I would feel better about it if some of you more knowledgeable guys could chime in and let me know your honest opinion. Basically, is it the real deal? Does the buttstock look original? Is there a way to tell, or proof marks to look for? Pics: |

Okay. Just heard back from him on buttstock questions:
S.A.L TD 1945 and there is another proof mark but I cant make it out. It is in a circle or oval but is hard to read. Well, if it's a PRE-WAR pistol, with a WW II buttstock, does it still fall into the "legal to own" C&R rule in it's SBR configuration? |

Hi
My buddy just bought a pre-war HI-Power. The gun looks like a real pre-war. It has the same markings as the one he purchased. The gun hasn't been buffed much if its been refinished as those stampings are pretty shallow.IMHO the finish is original. The stock for this pistol is not correct. It should be the flat type board stick with a attached leather holster. This stock is for a Canadian made Inglis which was a WW2 copy of the Browning made gun. Bob

The pistol looks like a pre-war Hi Power - the markings on the left side indciate that it was accepted by the Belgian military. Serial number should be below 35000.
The stock is canadian and it is illegal to attach that stock to that pistol. Maybe 10 years in a fed institution. Plus the Feds would take all of your other guns.
