Saw this one on gunbroker.com back a few days ago. From the description, seller was obviously a collector. The asking price was not low, but around book value. No one wanted it. Considering I don't have one like this, so I picked it up. It arrived quickly, looks super nice with near perfect matching oak stock.

Most bolo had nothing to do with Russian Bolshevik, but the exotic nickname stayed in the community. In the same way, most "French Gendarme C96" had nothing to do with neither French nor any Gendarme (I believe some instances did serve French military police, nickname had a hint), but the nickname is now universally used to describe this variation of large grip short barrel early postwar C96. "Germany" export stamp on left side frame, it's probably sold to American in early 1920s.

#408, I saw a pair of guns. If we look from another angle, they can be considered being variations from broader sense. Those are classified as C&R, although they were newly assembled.

I could have acquired one .45ACP, but I keep skipping it, feeling any time I want to get one, I can get one because it's available for sale almost every month (if not every week). So not urgent at all. Every month I pray to God "what I am looking for won't appear this month, so I can take a break". See, under this mood, I won't bid on #408. Please go ahead getting them.

Yes. It comes with an oak stock in excellent shape numbered to the gun. I have met a few "French" in the past few years, but looks like only a few "Germany" marked FG coming with stocks.

There are three split-hair subvariations FG. Some have "GERMANY" (all uppercase letters) on right side of the frame. Some have "Germany" (like this one, #433230) on left side of the frame. Some do not have export stamp (had a chance being used by French). Except that, other features are same.

I have #432983, which is also Germany marked, don't recall which font, no stock. The interesting thing about this run is that all the ones I have seen that have stocks have Oak ones, I don't think that that shows up on any other model?

I have seen very late Red 9s with oak stocks. I had a couple of Bolos serial in 44, 45 hundred thousand ranges (one sold), both came with walnut stocks though.

Mr. Antaris' book "Astra Firearms" shows a 44x,xxx coming with oak stock. It's safe to say oak stock started very late in Red 9, and stopped very early post war in Bolo.

Whoa! I messed that...Good catch! (My IBM monitor always shows too dark).

Is it safe to say that hard rubber grips --> Police/Military issue???

Edit: Now that I've seen the hard rubber grips...I want a set!!! Checked GB and found these - but the emblem and borders are different...

I wonder if your FG C96 grips are specific to that variation???

BTW: That front sight blade looks different from my C96's...Mine all have the front 'point' rounded...that one looks squared off...(If that's unclear, I can post a pic)...

I just put in my bid, but I don't expect to win. I don't believe any sealed/email bid can win. You either have to be there or have a superfast broadband connection and bid in realtime. I bid on a second lot as well, but again, no confidence.

Postie, I believe the front sight is good, but the color of bore-stores bag mixes with foreground gun. Having said that, I will fetch the gun over the weekend to make sure.

The rubber grip panels... remember that vL&D Shallow Milled Panel LRH that I posted at the beginning of the year? That one has this grip pattern.

The panels that you posted were another pattern, I saw that pattern on a few original Flatside LRHs. I guess this particular pair being replica? the look and feel of them on picture is .... too coarse, not Mausr quality, but the general shape is close enough.

Anyway, hard rubber grip by itself had nothing to do with military.

Regarding bidding on RIAC #408, sounds like you're not very hot on it, but "warm".... they had an assessment, low $$ - high $$ range. Bidding at low end then, if someone else wants it, you do not win but that's fine, you saved money. If no one else wants it, then it's yours. Bidding lower than estimate is another option, but the chance fades on this particular one.... for unknown reason, the market is hot on those .45ACP Broomhandle. Why? I don't know.

I like the idea of the detachable magazine, and a 45 C96 would be a displayable novelty...Almost a collectible...I thought it was a rather low estimate for the two, and I can live with or without them...
