Default What caliber was the Borchardt?

Got into a discussion with a couple guys at work this morning. I've got to find out what caliber(s) the Borchardt pistol was chambered in and when it was introduced.

Also, when was the .30 Mauser round for the Broomhandle Mauser pistol introduced?

I figured this forum would be the place to ask this sort of question.

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,

The Borchardt was .309 caliber, and its cartridge was the 7.65 Borchardt. Just when the 7.63 Mauser (.30 Mauser) cartridge was introduced is a good question. Certainly by 1896, and possibly a couple of years earlier. What clouds the issue for the C96 cartridge is the Feederle brothers (Fidel, Friedrich, and Jose - inventors of the C96) used the 7.65 Borchardt in the development of the C96. Just when the 7.65 Borchardt cartridge was "upgunned" into the 7.63 Mauser is uncertain.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Kyrie
