Renaissance Wax?
Hi,
For those of you who use wax on the metal of your guns, do you remove the oil before you put the wax on? Thanks, John |

Yes, the surface should be clean before you apply a substance to preserve it. I have Renaissance wax but I don't use it for normal use. I like good 'ole Hoppe's # 9 for oiling blued surfaces. It just seems better to me and I like the appearance.
Just my 1.5 cents. Jack |

John,
Renaissance wax also works as a cleaner, so the surface doesn't need to be 100% degreased. I just wipe the oil off, wipe it again with fiber cloth to get rid of oil residue, then I use the wax. I use it only for show (like when taking pictures), but for storage and protection I'd go with Jack's recommendation. IMO, wax works great on nickel and caustic blue, but has a "dead" appearance on rust blued guns. Oil makes rust blued guns prettier. |

FWIK nobody seems to use "Renaissance wax" here where I live, and it's also quite difficult to find it, BROWNELLS stocks 200 ml tin cans at the price of EUR 39.30 (about 43.60 $).
I know that some of our LUGER friends are using it with success, probably one of these days I think I'll give a try.

Good stuff. Especially for guns that are touched and handled often. Just not for shooters. Wax can be used on steel, wood, leather, paint.. Repels dust also.

I have used it on all my weapons for a long time with great results....just spread it on, give it a minute or two, and buff it. you will see a noticeable result.......i actually spread it on with my hands..works as advertised...

Why so? It sounds perfect for non-friction areas.
