Default Problems with Mec-Gar Mags

I just picked up a '70s-era Mauser Interarms import and a 1921 DWM Luger and decided to give them a workout at the range. I also bought a couple Mec-Gar Luger magazines, which seemed to fit fine.

Then once I tried them out with live ammo the things would drop free of the gun every time it cycled. Both guns.

The factory mag that came with the Mauser and the aftermarket one supplied with the DWM worked fine and the guns performed like champs, but the Mec-Gars were nothing but trouble.

Anyone else have the same experience?

I own a post war Mauser(06/73) and had a problem like you describe with one Mec-Gar mag in it. On close exam, the hole for the mag catch to go into was "off" just a tiny bit, and the mag catch would not fully go into the mag hole. I took a needle file and opened the hole in the mag to accept the mag catch.....it required very little filing.

Compare your Mec-Gar mags to your functioning mags, and you will most likely see a tiny/small difference in the mag catch hole. Modify as needed. Good luck!!

99% of the time a mecgar works great; many times they solve problems experienced with other mags.

You must be part of the 1%!

In the ten years I've been a member here, the quality of the Mec-Gar magazines has declined. Obvious is the replacement of the metal follower and base with plastic. It would follow that other areas not so obvious would be affected by the cost cutting measures also.

That said, they are still the best aftermarket Luger magazines currently available.

I have half a dozen Mec-Gar Luger mags and they all work as they should. My original mags are always set aside and I shoot only the Mec-Gar mags.

In the past I used MECGAR mags also on Luger shooters at the range, but I never had an issue.
