Default Walmart discontinuing Ammo Sales

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp

Just a heads up for anyone who primarily uses Walmart for their ammunition needs, they’ve declared that they will stop selling all handgun ammunition as well as .223/5.56 ammo. You will still be able to buy hunting rifles and shotguns there as well as their ammo. As the forum rules do state, no politics so please don’t hijack this and make it political, I can and will have my political fury with this somewhere else, and will also be making it known how I feel with my checkbook. I just know that for many (like me) Walmart is the only store in town that carries ammo regularly for all my firearms.

They are/were the only store around here that carried Winchester 'white box' ammunition.

I have been using the ammo shippers like SGAmmo for so long that other than a rare trap shotgun shell sale at Walmart, they are totally off my radar anyway. But I certainly share everyone's concerns about the current political climate.

I also regularly buy ammunition and components online.

My USPS and UPS drivers sometimes show up with very compact, very heavy packages...

A quick reminder to observe forum rules and avoid political discussion on this site. Thanks, Marc

Being a handloader, I don't purchase a lot of factory ammo......of course, do purchase rimfire ammo. I have been purchasing from SGAmmo for quite a while now for the things I don't load(Winchester Nato 9mm, etc.)

I very much appreciate the suggestions for places to get ammo shipped from. I just don't always have the resources to buy in bulk and have it shipped. More commonly I have an extra $20 in my budget and I dink and dunk my way up to having an ammunition store 1 or 2 boxes at a time so that I am at least not caught dry if I get a call from a friend asking what I am doing on a weekend afternoon.

On a side note, the article does not say nor do I know how this will affect their availability of .22 lr ammo. When I visited my Uncle in upstate New York in January, they classified it as hunting/rifle ammo at the Walmart there so it was not subject to the same background check there as was self-imposed by New York Walmarts for purchases of handgun cartridges.

I live in a pretty small town where Walmart is my only viable option for shopping - for pretty much anything; the nearest shopping mall is almost 80 miles away. My Walmart rarely has much more than shotgun shells with any regularity, and when they do, it’s always a pain in the ass because they have to find a manager and then if I don’t want to ring it up right then and there they have to hand carry it up front where I have to again wait while the cashier runs off mid-tally to go find wherever the manager placed it. It’s such an ordeal, I really can’t remember when was the last time I bought any ammo at Walmart. I mail order now, I buy a box or three at the local gun shop, pick up ammo at the Rural King, etc. I’m a long ways from bemoaning Walmart’s decision to pander to snowflakes.

Walmart is also asking that concealed permit owners do not 'open carry'. I, personally, do not 'open carry' except at the range where we are requiered to 'open carry'.

No one/civilian open carries if they have any brains. I don't want anyone to know I am armed for all the obvious reasons, until they see the flash of my muzzle.

Not necessarily true, I open carry loud and proud when I’m out on the trail hiking or hunting. Of course, it would be difficult to try and conceal a revolver with a 6” barrel.

I never buy ammo at Walmart, they usually don't have or don't carry the ammo I want (.30 Luger (PPU), 8mm Mauser, 9 MM Makarov, 45 colt (Not cowboy versions), and when they do have what I'm looking for (.22LR) it is a pain to actually get it, as others have said.

There's a Cabela's 20 minutes away, a large gun store about the same distance, an a Academy Outdoors 10 minutes away, they usually have everything but the .30 Luger PPU, which I have to get online.

I don't shop at Walmart much for anything, my wife likes the food prices.

As far as open carry, I open carry when I'm in the woods or fishing (and of course hunting). I'm carrying here mostly for issues with 4-legged creatures rather than two-legged.

There are a couple places I stop on the way to fishing that I open carry in, since I already am wearing the gun, but these are old-fashioned bait shops and nobody even notices, the kind of people frequenting these two stores are not the kind of people who care if you're carrying a gun.

Don't open carry in "public", if you know what I mean.

Still, I understand their requesting not to open carry in the store, can panic suburbanites, but not selling certain calibers seems excessive.

Don't open carry in "public", if you know what I mean. Exactly. I was walking into the Sam's club in Yuma last year when a couple of cowboy costumers were walking out bristling with a brace of monster six shooters each. I can easily see why even these harmless fellows might cause consternation among the general population. Apparently no one watches the old Gene Autry westerns anymore.

In compact urban areas I carry an no one knows. In the deep dark woods, open carry and no one cares.

While it is apparent that the Walmart decision does not gravely effect most of us, I can't help but feel that we are collectively missing the point regarding how it DOES effect us.
It brings to mind the old joke: "How do you boil a frog?"

This is something we should be aware of and remember and why we should NEVER surrender our Constitutional rights.

Call and register a complaint, I did. I also complained at our local store. I told them if they were going to ban ammo due to deaths, then they needed to eliminate the auto section of the store also, cause 30,000 plus people die in auto related accidents per year.

I don't hate Walmart..A lot of people I know work there. They have a lot of stuff I want to buy and like Ed says, they have driven out most of the small retailers who we used to shop at.

But I can tell you this..I won't go near one if there is any other choice. It's off my list for first pick. Just like I won't buy Levi jeans or any Nike products. ANY business that is after destroying one of the most important parts of the US Constitution is not one I can support. I know it won't make one iota of difference to them..but it will to me.

Buy your ammo online and have it delivered. Cheaper and more convenient.

My pistol club orders ammunition from Target Sports -

https://www.targetsportsusa.com/

I've placed a couple small orders; no restrictions, no HazMat fees, delivered right to my door...

They have PRVI and Fiocchi 30 Luger, 93gr FMJ, but are presently out of stock...But I've ordered the Fiocchi in the past, two 50 rd boxes @ @22.25 ea...
