Help with magazine markings (new to the form)
I am trying to determine the character on a luger/magazine.
The character doesn’t match any of the reference material, I have my opinion of what letter it is. I was hoping to get some feedback from some more experienced collectors, all help is welcome. |

I agree it's an "r" over a spare mag "+" sign. TH

I agree, an r, it is stamped off a bit, like slightly sideways

Here's an "r" suffix '41 BYF for comparison. Matching mag. http://forum.lugerforum.com/attachme...1&d=1641182647 http://forum.lugerforum.com/attachme...1&d=1641182647

It's a beautiful Luger.
The matching magazines are really special. I think it has been nicely refinished, because it has no signs of wear. Your toggle where "byf" is stamped looks very scraped up and doesn't have beveled edges. And, I agree that the suffix letter is an "X". I have a 42 byf that looks very similar (below), except that it has holster rash on the muzzle, the frame sides, the side plate and scrape marks from the thumb safety. |

I don't think it has been refinished. It's just an exceptionally nice example. They do exist. I don't see any of the typical signs of a reblue.
