Default Cleaning rod

Just picked up this cleaning rod to go with my 1917 and was wondering how to tell if a cleaning rod is original. Picked this up at old guns of Idaho auction.

It will probably do a good job of cleaning the bore, but it is not an original cleaning rod. The wooden barrel is not the correct shape and the end of the rod at the barrel would be peened over a steel washer and the assembly would be rounded over but not polished.

Scubaman, I realize that that was not the response that you would have liked, but a simple acknowledgement would have been nice.

BTW, I learned most of what I know about Luger cleaning rods from Jerry Burney as he coached me on the appearance details required in the making of replica rods. He got me into that project as I made cleaning rods for Luger Carbines. I have thanked him many times but I wanted to do so again publicly. So, thank you Jerry.

I believe Simpsons has a correct rod for sale. I had a repro rod that I acquired with an LP08 I bought some months ago. After receiveing it, I did a lot of reading about rods here and elsewhere, and also showed it to Jerry. I have since acquired an original rod, but I would suggest that you read up on them a bit. Certainly knowledge worth having and don't let that one set too long at Simpsons. I may buy that one as well since I now have two LP08's.
