Post Dad's Guns

Well, just to let people know, in less than a year, I have 58 pages (all Publisher format) of stories of guns brought back, given to loved ones, from Dad's, Grandfathers, unknowns, etc.

My main focus is stories actaully brought back from WW1 or WW2, but have included most stories I have received.

It is in Publisher format (easiest to move, write in etc) and is an interesting read with stories from Indoneasa, Germany, several from Canada, and ALL over the US.

Am I too late to get the von Rib piece and the first M1911 A-1 in ocupied Tokyo included? If so, I apologize; maybe for version 2.0. If not, let me know when your drop dead date is.

If you send me the info via e-mail and your snail mail, you (and others can get both).

This is an on-going project and I would really like to include both of those guns! {{{and any others!!}}}

This is an old thread; but one I have been wroking on (although it was on back-burner while Graham and I worked on the Simson Book).

I am at 132 pages and a publisher has said they'd like to publish begining of the year. It'll be a smaller book, above pocket size, but not Simson luger size, plus should be all in color and sell for around $29.99 or so, possibly less if paperback.

My point is, if you have any reasonably good documented bring back items that you'd like put in this book, I need the information by the end of this week.

I am looking for true stories, if your uncle Mak got the luger form a card game, thats okay! If he took it off of General rommel himslef, thats okay too, but maybe a bit of providnance for the last one?

oh, thats a hell of a way to help out. There are nicer ways and the thread is old, probably written when I was drunk in the ditch and you'd been over here in the USA forcing me to drink.

yes, although several stories do not have pictures, they help very much.

Tac, you amaze me, how are you going to go back to the UhK after visiting beautiful indosnesa, I mean Oregon?

ed

here is what I posted on the Japanese forum and Jan's forum;
Quote:
hello all;

I have been collecting bring back stories since 2002, and I am finally getting to the point where I will publish. I have 132 pages so far, the book will be soft cover and hopefully full color. I have lots of stories of Lugers being brought back, an Indonesian dutch Luger, a G43, an Iraqi pistol and a few others.

Here is what I am looking for;

1. 1-2 page "story" of how it was aquired; this might be that Uncle Bob traded a carton of cigarettes for the Nambu / item in Jan 1946.
2. I would like the story as "first-hand", first person told as possible. A possible made up story from the dealer / collector without any provinance does not appeal to me for this book.
3. 1 - 5 photos of the item, be it, pistol, gas mask, helmet, etc.

I will give full credit to the person who gave me the story (or use a first name if you want to remain fairly annonymous)

And I will use spellcheck and ask a few friends and a proof editor to read it over for me prior to publication, but I will also try and keep the gist / style of the writer as much as possible.
