Aimco Current Product Line Overview...
I did get a response from Mr. Romo with a promise to send a brochure. As I've seen on this forum he does tend to take a while. In the interest of getting a quick overview can anyone summarize Aimco's current product lineup and approxinate costs? In general I'm intersted in a 9mm shooter, and need to decide on an "original" shooter vs waiting for the Aimco info.
Thanks mucho...

Hi,
Same problem here... It seems that Aimco can improve massively on sales of lugers if they get their PR going... |

Definitely! I saw a letter to the editor in a gun rag asking where they could buy a stainless steel Luger. The answer was that the stainless luger was out of production. This sort of thing is not helping AIMCO's cause.

I know that Mr. Romo has little time to spend on his computer... but perhaps one of you that is in touch with him should copy this message thread and make sure he reads it... I would hate for the last luger production line in the world to go under because they didn't spend enough time advertising...
I don't recall if he is Lugerforum member... if he is not, he should be...

When I bought mine in January, the dealer said it was the last of its kind and that you couldn't get them anymore. Almost believable, as I have been to half dozen gun shows and have yet to see another one, used even...

Johnny,
Jerry.B's initial post seems to contradict what your dealer told you... There is not a great demand for this gun simply because many folks do not like stainless steel, and as much as we all love the design of the Luger, it simply isn't state of the art for a personal defense gun. It's appeal is primarily historical. I hope AIMCO never decides to stop production... He has told several members of plans to produce a .45 caliber model in the next year or so... these should have some brisk sales in the first few months... I don't know many Luger enthusiasts that wouldn't want one...

I have been in contact with Mr. Romo recently and am about to place an order for a 4.75 inch .30cal with grip safety and dished toggles. He is definitely still in business and one of our members in Texas sees him regularly at some shows there. It would be nice if the guns were at least listed in the annual catalogue type issues of the magazines. The answer in the magazine just shows that they are not the final work on some things.
When I send the check I will ask for a complete listing of the current line and prices. The price sheet that I have is a couple of years old so I do not know how accurate it is. I have invited him to join our little group but so far it looks like he has not done so. I could even understand if he were to use a nick-name. |

All,
In fairness to AIMCO and Mr Romo, whom I have met and assess as a complete gentleman and savvy entrepreneur,as CEO of a manufacturing operation, he is driven by economic laws of business and the market place. What I mean by this is that in order for his company to amortize the fixed costs of a production run, he must have sales of X units with a margin of Y% profit. If his projections of sales don't approach several times the total membership of the forum, then it is simply not cost effective to start a production line. History has proven through Mauser GmbH, Mitchell, Stoeger and possibly AIMCO, that there simply is not sufficient demand to warrant new production of our beloved toggle top. All in all, that is the beauty of the system and our lovely pistols: they ain't makin' no more 'cause the ones that were made were damn near hand made, and no body can do that any more for under $5K or so. I hope I don't live long enough to see a McLuger. Tom A. |

Hi,
Well, all in all this doesn't change my point of view: I want one.... But seriously, it would be nice to find some local who can act as a liason between Aimco and interested prospects like me. |

When (then) Interarmco was considering asking Mauser resume production of the Luger, the "paper demand" was fantastic. Everyone wanted a new Luger. First production was of the Swiss type. The "paper demand" said that was no good, that the P.08 was what should be made. So the tooling was changed at considerable expense. Then the "paper demand" said the new guns were not "historical", and not even worth considering. The (pardon me if I hit too close to home) "Luger snobs" would not even consider touching a gun that had not been owned by at least a Field Marschal and preferably Hitler himself or at least Georg Luger. So they ran the guns down and told everyone not to buy them as they were worthless junk.
End of a good idea. I doubt things have changed enough to make new Luger production viable. Jim |

The stainless steel guns are still in production. However there is an update. AIMCO has changed its name to Orimar Firearms Manufacturing. The email from Mr. Romo said that the change was due to the close association in many minds between AIMCO and Stoeger. Also the new guns will have OFM stamped on the front toggle link.
In price, they are between a shooter grade and a new in box from the 1970's so they do offer an alternative for a good shooting gun. In about a week, I hope to have some scans of one with a .30cal 4.75 inch barrel and dished toggles and hopefully a new price list. |

It would be nice to see an 'OFM' logo, closely resembling the 'DWM' logo in appearance
I'd love to get a fresh 1906-type grip safety thingy on which I can set the sights to my not-so-fanastic eyes. I'd hate to (and won't) mess around with the front sight on my M11 Dutch luger. It's a historic piece and not well suited for competition use. If anyone speaks to mr. Romo, do a 'pretty please with sugar on top' for me, will you? |

Steve, since the new firm will be called Orimar Firearms Manufacturing and will sever ties with STOEGER will the new firearms be called a "Luger" or ??? Doesnt Stoeger OWN the name Luger when it comes to firearms? Just curious

As far as I know, Stoeger owns the name Luger in this country as far as guns go. The one that I have is officially called an "American Eagle" and is so stamped on the gun. The parts list is labeled "P-08 American Eagle". So I supose the name is American Eagle. I will let everyone know when my new one arrives.
The grip safety wraps around the entire frame rather than one side as on the 1906 that I have. |

The former AIMCO link on our Links & Resources page of Lugerforum.com has been updated to reflect this new company name...
Orimar Firearms Manufacturing Thanks for letting us know.
